Independent Tyre Test Results Good News for Michelin
Recently DEKRA and TÜV SÜD - two independent testing organisations – performed a number of tyre tests on Michelin’s 175/65 R 14T Energy Saver and the 225/40 R 18Y Pilot Sport 3 car tyres. When testing, each Michelin tyre was tested against their major European competitors. These included tyres from Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear and Pirelli.
The tyre life tests were done by DEKRA and carried out over 7,000-10,000 kms. To ensure that the tests were fair, two fleets of identical cars were used – one fleet of Peugeot 206s and one fleet of VW Golf Vs TO make sure that outside influences were had as small an impact as possible, the drivers were switched between cars on a regular basis during the tests.
As for the rolling resistance and wet braking tests, these were carried out by TÜV SÜD. To make sure that the tyres were the same as the ones purchased by the general public, they were all bought from a variety of tyre retailers from across the EU.
The results from these tested pointed quite significantly to the fact that Michelin car tyres are leading the way in environmental performance. This is due to the fact that on average they have a longer life and they reduce fuel consumption thanks to keeping rolling resistance to a minimum.
The tyres used in the tests as a comparison were as follows:
