One million hours in and not a single “losttime” accident reported. That’s the accomplishment that was achieved by Bridgestone Americas Tire Operation (BATO) tyre factory in Wilson, North Carolina. In an industry where accidents can be fatal, this is definitely an amazing feat for the factory and the company. Even more impressive is the fact that this factory was actually the eighth Bridgestone Americas facility to reach the impressive landmark by the end of 2009 – making last year a record breaking year for the tyre manufacturer.
When asked for a few words on the achievement, Jim Pridgen – the Wilson Plant manager – had this to say: “Every day, BATO team mates ensure the highest level of safety for one another in the workplace. This is a tremendous achievement for our team. We will continue to strive for the highest levels of safety for our plants”.
This is not the first time that the Wilson factory has received attention for its excellent safety record. For four years in a row – leading up to 2007 – the facility was presented with a North Carolina Safety Achievement Award.
