The competition revolves around a game integrated into Facebook. This means that it is free to enter for anyone who is signed up to the social media platform. The name of the game is ContiTireKick and up until the end of April players will be able to compete against each other to see who can get the highest score on a number of different levels – there is also the option for users to create their own levels for others to use.
According to Continental, the points will help to determine who the best “online kickers” are as well as the best “level designers”. In total there are 200 prizes on offer to the players including the top prizes of tickets to the World Cup finals.
Dirk Rockendorf, head of eBusiness for Passenger and Light Truck Tires was quoted as saying, "Facebook has developed into the leading social media platform. In order to reach the many soccer fans amongst the users directly, we decided to run the game exclusively as an interactive Facebook application.
On the one hand, we also reach the younger, Internet-savvy users; on the other hand, the application spreads like wildfire because the participants can easily invite their Facebook friends and other Internet users to play ContiTireKick or to create their own levels using the normal applications."
Since the launch of the competition and game two days ago, there have already been 35,000 players and an extra 4,500 levels created.
