Product description & features

The directional sipes are deep and wide improving traction in snowy conditions, tapering towards the shoulders and the central grooves to increase tyre stability.

The sipes extend out around each shoulder helping the tyre to corner well and maintain traction on underlying snow. The near zig-zag effect along the central nerve of the tread helps the tyre to quickly remove any water whilst at the same time increasing grip stability.

Combining this tread design with a state-of-the-art rubber compound, this tyre is highly effective even in icy conditions. A tyre designed for lower temperatures, the Kumho I’Zen KW23 is a great choice for this coming winter for safety, traction and grip.

Winter Tyres (without 3PMSF)

What are winter tyres?

Winter tyres have been developed to perform best during the colder winter months - when the outside temperatures drop below 7 degrees Celsius.

How does a winter tyre perform better in winter?

The compound of a winter tyre contains a higher natural rubber content - helping the tyre to remain flexible in freezing weather and conform to the road surface.

The grooves of winter tyres are typically wider to channel snow and water. The latest generation also have smaller shoulder grooves to improve snow and ice traction.

Can I use winter tyres all year round?

Although winter tyres can be used in other conditions, their performance will not be as efficient as they have been optimised to perform in temperatures under 7°C.

There is also a risk of a winter tyre’s wear rates increasing when drive on in warm temperatures, due to the high silica and natural rubber compound.

Please note: these winter tyres do not have the EU sanctioned 3PMSF marking to indicate a recognised accolade for use on snow and ice. They may show M+S (Mud & Snow) on the sidewall but this a self-certification from the manufacturer. It has not been subjected to the same testing as a tyre carrying the 3PMSF symbol.

We recommend that winter tyres should be fitted as a full set of 4.
