Smartphone Dashcam App for Reporting Traffic Crimes

Smartphone Dashcam App for Reporting Traffic Crimes

A new app, set to be launched later this year, could mix up the way drivers use the roads - and how traffic crimes are dealt with.

The app essentially converts a smartphone into a functional dashcam. Allowing users to record and report a staggering 21 different driving offenses.

These range from speeding to using a mobile phone, and illegal parking to dangerous driving.

The app's creator has already been in discussions with the Police Chiefs' Council – receiving the backing for its implementation. With reports able to be sent via a secure portal to the Police.

So, how does it work?

With just a single tap of the record button on the app, drivers can capture footage of any car crimes they witness whilst they are on the road.

The app stores this footage and automatically, which they then send as part of a report when it is safe to do so.

If they choose not to report an incident, any recording will be automatically erased once the journey is over and 30 seconds has passed without input on the app. This is to protect driver privacy.

App Benefits

For some, the potential benefits of the app are immense. With almost every driver having a mobile phone, the app has the potential to increase the number of reported car crimes.

Thereby reducing the number of accidents caused by dangerous driving.

By allowing drivers to report incidents quickly and easily, the app can help to deter reckless driving. With the goal of making the roads safer to use for everyone.

App Drawbacks

However, on the other side of the coin – there will be those who do not welcome this.

As with any new technology, there are drawbacks to consider.

One such concern being privacy issues. As drivers may be recording their journeys and potentially other road users without their knowledge or consent. This could lead to disputes and legal issues.

There will also be those who focus on the is the perceived "Big Brother" aspect of the app. Some drivers may feel uncomfortable with the idea of being monitored and watched constantly, leading to a sense of mistrust and anxiety on the road.

Despite these concerns, the developers of the app said to be working hard to address issues by implementing clear guidelines and regulations. Stating exactly how the app should be used and ensuring that drivers' privacy is protected. Paving the way for the app to be used responsibly and ethically.

App Dashcam

Whichever side of the fence you sit on, the new app that converts smartphones into dashcams for reporting traffic crimes has the potential to make a significant impact on road safety.

With the backing of the National Police Chiefs' Council and the potential to capture and report hit-and-run incidents, the app has the power to bring dangerous drivers to justice and could lead to safer roads in the long term.
